Who We Are

Independent, expert, European.

What’s up EU was founded in 2020 by Thomas Harbor and Agnès de Fortanier, two friends who met at Sciences Po and are now both competition lawyers. Together they started a weekly publication driven by one wish: to explain what the EU actually does.

We are translators. A good part of our work is explaining the jargon and the acronyms, turning the institutions’ technical decisions into a story, and spelling out the legal constraints and the political balance of power.

We choose our subjects carefully, keeping to the ones that matter at European Union level. Our reporting draws on a bench of experts, a network of partners, and years of experience of the practitioners and thinkers who make the EU work day to day.
